How to save paper and trees @ home & office

http://green.in.msn.com/greenliving/article.aspx?cp-documentid=3225657&page=0

Remember how excited we were when offices were computerised and the idea of a 'paperless office' was considered fashionable? Alas! Instead of decreasing the amount of paper that businesses handle, technology has made it easier to create more paper trails than ever before.

No longer do you have to painstakingly write... just print, print and print!

Whether we realise it or not, paper plays a very important role in our lives. We come across it every day numerous times. It's almost omnipresent. The newspaper, cereal box, the shopping bag, the tissue, the toilet paper, books, magazines, labels, it's everywhere.

When paper is such an intense part of our lives and we know trees need to be cut down to make it, why not be a little more judicious before we hit the print key?

Making a difference
There are people who are doing their bit to save paper in their own small ways. "We lived abroad for over 3 years and we would read our Indian newspapers online," says Geetha Balasubramanian. "Now it's become a habit. When we moved back to India in 2007, we continued reading the epaper version," she adds.

Epapers is something we can easily take up. In most cases we just flip through the paper and read just about two articles before putting it away. Why not do that over the net?
Then there is Gunjan Verma who keeps all the wrapping paper from the gifts her children get. "It sounds miserly but I really did it to save paper. If it's good and reusable why throw it away?" she asks. What's more Gunjan's daughters made a sturdy paper bag for her shopping with all the junk mail they got in their letterbox. "If we have to teach our children about how to conserve resources we have to get involved now," she believes.

Here are some tips that can help you be a conscious citizen and save paper.
In the office:

* Print only when it is absolutely necessary. And promote a 'think before you print' attitude.
* Set computer defaults to print double-sided.
* Proof read documents on screen before printing. You don't want to reprint pages because of errors that could have been avoided.* Print addresses directly on envelopes and avoid using labels.
* Fill copier trays correctly to avoid paper jams.
* While buying paper or diaries, stick to recycled paper with a high percentage of post-consumer recycled content.* Opt for uncoloured paper and buy in bulk to reduce packaging.
* Encourage reusing paper that has been printed only on one side.
* Trim mailing lists used to send information to your customers to avoid unwanted and duplicate mailing.* Change the paper cups in the pantry with ceramic stuff that can be washed and put back on the shelf.
* Use the fastest and paperless way to mail documents -- email.
* Reuse cardboard shipping boxes. Shipping boxes can be reused many times.* Send wastepaper for recycling.
At home:
* If you can, stop buying the newspaper and read the epaper instead.

* Get your name off mailing lists that send you promotions you don't care about.
* Opt for e-bil options with your phone, electrictity service providers.
* Get washable cloth towels for the kitchen and cut down on paper towel usage.
* Teach children not to tear paper from notebooks to make airplanes.
* If you enjoy reading, join a library rather than buying books.
* Make the kabadiwala a friend and give wastepaper for recycling.
* Switch to recycled toilet paper.
* Don't accept promotional fliers as they are going to go straight into the bin.

Hindus! born to bear the brunt

To be completed

Calling Mohammed an idiot amounts to hurting Muslim sentiments. Muslims indulged in vandalism regarding this when an artticle in Deccan Herald was published few decades back.

The comedy movie ‘The Love Guru’ produced in America’s Christian film city, Hollywood, has targeted for ridicule the Hindu’s glorious tradition of ‘Guru-Shishya’

Hindu Godesses can be drawn nude, and that's a piece of art work for the Indian courts

Muslims can put loud speakers for their daily Namaz but we cannot put loud speakers during festivals because the Buddhi jeevis feel it incorrect to put loud speakers.

Hindus can be told that they are communal becuase here and there they tend do defend Traveling to the US and you are instructed To respect their privacy, Not to be candid, Not to talk against the US

Traveling to Nepal or any other nation for that matter and you are informed/instructed/guided to respect the people and not to hurt their sentiments.

Traveling and or meeting or negotiating with a Muslim, you are ordered not to meddle with their sentiments and religion!

Traveling to India and meeting a Hindu, meeting an Indian(Hindu), dealing with an Indian(Hindu), doing a Business with an Indian(Hindu) - be bindaas(Don't care) - No matter what.

This is the message sent across the world and Indians have taken it all. I have not see many Indians giving it a thought either. My sports and hobbies have taken me to quite a few corners of this country and my profession to the African and American Contienent (Twice). Where ever I have gone I have been asked specifically to respect the locals and their sentiments.

MF Hussain draws all the Hindu Godesses nude and makes it look vulgar and

The media has never supported the cause and concern; On the contrary it claims neutral by supporting the wrong. I wish they practice some gumption/(Common sense) of supporting the right if not the Dharma which is door ki baat for the media.

Corruption – “The Curse of Indian Society”

Corruption – “The Curse of Indian Society”

A Gate keeper in King Akbar’s court shared an unpleasant reward of 50 beatings by Birbal’s wit, for expecting bribe!

Now, it’s only a story narrated to the Kinder Garten kids and punishing the corrupt ones is not a reality any more. The intensity of corruption in India is exorbitant and is rising at an alarming rate and seems to have no end in the near future.

The reluctant attitude of the politicians of this country towards curbing corruption is the main reason for this situation. The zealous youth fighting against it, end up becoming victims of corruption. This disturbing absurd menace can be curbed only when the young and the old, the poor and the rich the weak and the strong all unite together and fight against it with out any self interest.

You go to any city Municipal Corporation Office, The Taluq Office or any other Government Office for that matter; you will have to shell out some thing, empty your purse to get your work done. Any legitimate or legal argument with the officials and your files will see the bottom of the cupboard and remain there till you give that some thing!

Now who is responsible for this flagrant situation? Is it the British, or we ourselves the citizens of the Sovereign Democratic Republic of India or is it because of the Poverty in this country.
Let me analyze few of the causes.

• The causes of Corruption dates back to the time of Rajas who used to rule this country. These rulers and the people around them abetted corruption in a bid to confiscate the throne and increase their territory. They bribed the soldiers or the ministers with wealth and money and got their greed fulfilled ignoring the people’s or the state’s prosperity.

• Later came the foreigners, who on the pretext of setting up trading centers conquered our country with a ruthless disregard to the people of this country who offered shelter for trading. They made our people fight amongst ourselves by making lucrative offers to each other. They did bring large amount of corruption in to this country along with them or induced corruption in to this country in a bid to elicit confidential information which leads to the capture of a province or state.

• The country at the time of independence was in a precarious state, hence came the feature of accepting bribes for official favors and official work. The leaders or the reformers who really were generous and honest those times hardly took time to look in to this and remained aloof. Even the law making body and the law implementation body ignored the growing menace.

Some of the reforms that would curb the menace,
• Start educating the children or the younger generation and the coming generations by conducting awareness programs at the schools, colleges and work places regarding the horrible repercussions of this menace convincingly enough.

• Make the rules far more stringent and the punishments more severe.

• Denounce people found guilty of corrupt practices and ensure there is fear of law amongst people and of course educate the rationale behind ensuring the fear of law.

• Use the strength of the youth in combating this cancer which is in its advanced stage.

• Bring in programs and take measures to eradicate poverty in this country and curb population growth by bringing in suitable schemes.

• Prudent thinking and shrewd actions on the part of our National Leaders as an united effort cutting across party lines in implementing privatization programs, population control schemes, and bringing in foreign investments, and having a bright vision of India as a developed country.

Some of the Factors impeding the reforms. The Corruption gene is so very well bred in the bones of our people that it is almost impossible to get it out of their muscles.

• One big reason resisting the reforms are the politicians. From the time of issuing tickets for the elections and till they get elected the corrupt practices are rampantly present and continues.

• The kids, youth and our parents get in to this web when they are forced to pay hefty donations in getting their wards to top professional colleges. Later on a few of these students start corrupt practices in order to make good for the donations they paid during their education.

Well, the list will simply grow and keep counting; we have a long way to go to find some solace in this regard. We need to fortify our society which has become fragile over the years. Our youth has to extricate this nation from this embarrassing situation. The ignorant irresponsible attitude of our National Leaders has to subside to a great extent.

The reverberations of some trenchant writings are to be felt by people of this country. The poets, novelists, dramatists, school children and youth have to pull up their socks and get in to act in this regard.

Corruption is indeed the “Curse of Indian Society”! But it’s in our hands not to make it an eternal curse. I call upon all of you to be united in fighting this menace and drive it away for good.

Death for Rapists?

Death for Rapists?

It is ‘The fear of Law’ with the death penalty, which will act as deterrent to such heinous crimes. If there’s no fear of Law even death penalty on the paper / law books won’t deter criminals.

We have seen village panchayats ordering rape as a verdict and four goondas rape a woman as a punishment, this keeps happening only because the law enforcing authority is being taken as granted – corrupt; there’s no fear of law and the law enforcing body in this country is a buyable commodity either for a few hundred’s or for a few thousands.

Proving a Rape in the court of Law is a tough task these days most rape cases go unsolved or go in favor of the criminal. A woman who undergo this trauma both physically and mentally can’t come out in open because of our society set up, and women who do venture out aren’t adequately supported though some organizations do come forward in the initial stages the enthusiasm dies as the court keeps giving the new dates for hearing. Makes it all the more easier for the culprits to go scot-free and repeat the crime and make a habit of it.

India’s best woman police officer Kiran Bedi did advocate death Penalty for rapists in one of the T V shows recently. Advani is right in slapping death penalty for rapists. If this menace has to be ended then strict law enforcing is needed with out corrupt practices.
